Guitarist, Musical Director, Composer, Producer and Concert Promoter, Gray Bartlett has been picking his way to success for over 35 years. Through twenty singles and thirty albums, Gray has sold well in excess of a million units of his music. He has also shared his wisdom by guiding the fortunes of immense rising talents Hayley Westenra and Ben Morrison. Gray is a proud Patron of the Variety Artists Club of New Zealand.
Benny Award Winner Marian Burns is internationally recognised for her charismatic fiddle-playing. Her credentials are second-to-none : NZ Country Music Entertainer of the Year, VAC Top Musician, VAC Agnew Award for Excellence, Lifetime Achievement Award at the Golden Fiddle Awards and more. In January 2013 in Tamworth, Australia Marian received the Australasian Fiddle Award and also “Best CD by a Solo Fiddler” for her new album, The Paris Sessions.
Barbie Davidson is a recipient of the 'Best Performer Award in the Ricky May Tradition' at the Brisbane Jazz Festival. She has been described as a dynamic singer with a marvellous feel for her audience. Barbie has performed with the Ross Hurley Swing Band in Auckland and is a regular performer at jazz festivals throughout the North Island. She currently performs solo and with the Brian Henderson Trio.
Gary Daverne ONZM is an internationally recognised musical arranger, composer, conductor, director and producer. He was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 1996 in recognition of his services to music. VAC Patron David Hartnell MNZM was the first full-time celebrity gossip columnist in New Zealand. Larry Killip is a songwriter/performer/producer operating from his home-based professional studio in Auckland. He runs his own company producing music and sound design for television programs and commercials – some of Larry’s jingles have become so well-known he likes to call them ‘household hits’. In 1999 he was awarded Best Male Vocal in the South Pacific International Song Contest.
Suzanne Lynch MNZM established a name alongside sister Judy as popular singing duo The Chicks. She has worked with the likes of Val Doonican, Neil Sedaka, Cat Stevens, Ringo Starr, Art Garfunkel and Chris de Burgh. Suzanne has acted as vocal coach for three series of NZ Idol and two series of Stars In Their Eyes. Suzanne recieved the prestigious Benny Award in 2006.
A former NZ national champion, John McGough is now one of the country’s finest cabaret instrumentalists providing music on both Trumpet and Flugal Horn as well as vocals. John has also been awarded for his talents as a professional entertainer by winning a VAC Scroll of Honour. John also works as a DJ, Compere and Voice-Over Artist.
Auckland Magician Mick Peck is a full-time professional entertainer who performs at parties, functions and special events. Mick is also a proud recipient of the Awesome Service Award for providing inspirational customer service. He has twice been chairman of the New Zealand International Magicians Convention. Midnite Special are a five piece classic hits band located in Auckland. They received the prestigious VAC Top Group Award in both 2010 and 2012. Midnite Special is made up of Lex and Michelle Greaves, Robert Katipa, Richard T. Paa and Michael Bennett.
Lionel Reekie performs in New Zealand and overseas as a singer, accordionist and conductor with a wide musical repertoire for all occasions. His recent CD From Russia With Love features songs from stage and screen. Lionel was the recipient of the VAC Rising Star Award in 1991 and in 2010 was awarded a VAC Scroll of Honour.
JamesRAy – singer, songwriter and international multi-award winning entertainer. Being raised on the music of the proud Southern states of America gave JamesRAy his musical direction and distinction for what has proved to be a rewarding life career and world adventure. Not unlike the comedian Woody Allen, Rick Sahar is also American, Jewish, wears glasses, balding and going through analysis. With that in mind, Rick launched his professional entertainer career in 1984 and has never looked back. Tom Sharplin is New Zealand’s King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. He’s available for big birthdays, wedding parties, corporate events and Christmas parties. Tom was awarded Band Of The Year in 1980 with The Cadillacs, NZ Toastmasters David Nottage Trophy in 2008 and the prestigious Benny Award in 1992. Tom has served as VAC President since 2005.
A vibrant, versatile entertainer, Edwina Thorne has released five albums and has also taught music for twenty years, specializing in ensemble performance and instrumental tuition. Edwina is an excellent trumpeter, trained in composition and improvisation from Berklee College of Music. Her enormous experience and ability to facilitate any style of music motivates and supports participants to express themselves musically while enabling a cohesive sound to develop.
Walnut The Clown is a professional birthday party magic clown and children’s entertainer. He has performed all over the country and also in Australia, Brazil, Easter Island, France and Vanuatu. In 2007 Walnut received a VAC Scroll Of Honour and the 2013 Top Children’s Entertainer Award. When not clowning, Michael Colonna does an absolutely fantastic job as our VAC Archive Officer.
Alan Watson is a professional multi-award winning international family and corporate magician who will tailor a show to your particular needs. The key to Alan’s success is that his shows are highly interactive and his comedy and humour will have you wanting more. Balloon Twister Michele Watson entertains with colourful balloon sculptures to audiences ranging from pre-schoolers to senior citizens. Sculpturing assignments have taken Michele to Australia, Fiji, Vanuatu and the USA. She is a Life Member of the Society of American Magicians and a Member of the Magic Castle in Hollywood. Michele and husband Alan were recipients of the prestigious DRAGON Award in 2002.
Jon Zealando is a living legend of New Zealand entertainment. Known as a magician, ventriloquist, escapologist, yogi (someone able to withstand pain), debunker of frauds and entertainment personality, Jon was awarded the prestigious Benny Award in 1972 and the Grand Master of Magic medallion in 1985. He also represented NZ internationally including two Guinness World Records and appearances on the TV show That’s Incredible.
